United Way of Forsyth County

The United Way of Forsyth County (UWFC) and Held are proud to announce a transformative collaboration of family support and educational empowerment in our community.

A Focus on Family Stability

At the heart of this partnership is a commitment to addressing one of the most pressing issues in the Forsyth County community: family stability. The UWFC's Siemer Institute Family Stability Program is designed to combat the adversities faced by families grappling with housing instability, an issue that not only threatens the physical well-being of those affected but also casts a long shadow over the educational and emotional development of school-aged children.

The repercussions of housing instability are far-reaching, affecting every aspect of a child's life from academic performance to social development. With nearly 1.5 million public school students reported homeless in the 2018-2019 school year, the urgency of this issue cannot be overstated. It's a growing crisis that the UWFC-Held partnership is poised to address head-on.

Bridging Gaps, Building Futures

The partnership leverages the strengths of both organizations to offer a comprehensive solution that extends beyond the immediate need for shelter. Through the FSP, families are equipped with the tools and resources needed to achieve long-term success, both at home and in the classroom. The program's cornerstone is its robust case management and coaching system, where families receive personalized support for up to 24 months to secure housing stability and economic self-sufficiency.

Families will also receive $100 per month per child for twelve months with no strings attached.

This approach is underpinned by the two-generation strategy, simultaneously addressing the needs of children and their parents to nurture the entire family unit. It's about more than just providing a roof over heads—it's about empowering families to thrive.

By coming together, UWFC and Held are not just addressing the symptoms of family instability but are tackling its root causes, paving the way for a future where every child has the opportunity to succeed, regardless of their family's housing situation.
